BDchronicle :

Mushfiqur Rahim now holds the record for becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score two Test double centuries along with the highest individual innings by a Bangladesh batsman.

He struck his first double century during the 2013 Test tour of Sri Lanka and today he struck his second double ton after continuing on from 111 not out yesterday. The right-handed batsman also became the first wicket-keeper-batsman to score two double centuries in Tests, an incredible accomplishment that some of the best wicket-keeper-batsmen have not achieved.

His innings is also the highest knock played by a Bangladesh batsman at MirpurÕs Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. He went past Mominul Hague’s 161 after lunch today to make the record his. It was a life-saving knock from one of Bangladesh’s most dependable batsman as he revived the Tigers after it looked like another batting collapse was imminent when they lost three top-order batsmen within 12 overs yesterday. He controlled the flow of the game with his usual composure, building partnerships along the way.  The double ton, reached in 407 deliveries was laced with 16 fours and one six.

It was indeed a day of landmarks for the diminutive right-hander as he went past Shakib Al Hasan to become to record holder for the highest individual innings by a Bangladesh batsman with his unbeaten 219. Shakib had struck 217 against New Zealand at Wellington last year and Tigers declared there innings today at 522 for 7 after Mushfiqur went past Shakib to post new high-score.

He also became the Bangladesh batsman to face most deliveries in a single innings , going past Mohammad Ashraful’s 417 deliveries faced against Sri Lanka in Galle during an innings of 190 back in 2013.
